Sleep tips which really helped me wake up.

If you spend any time cruising digg.com, stumbleupon.com or any of the many Internet content aggregators like me, you find yourself reading a fair amount of self-help blogs. And like me, you'll say "that's cool, I should try that some time", and never do. This is a quick note on the time I did try something, and why you should give it a go as well.
"5 Ways to Synchronize Your Body's Clock" was a title on digg that caught my attention, mostly because my body clock has been flashing 12:00 for some time. I was always tired and never seemed to be able to get to bed early enough. I'm working full-time in a physical job, and trying to write, well, learn to write, through trial and error. All this and family and my spiritual needs meant I don't seem to have enough time for sleep, although I know of other people who can do it, so why could I???
I am sure there are plenty of you who feel the same, so I thought I would mention this link to Reader's Digest who put up a couple of tips from a book "Sleep to be Sexy Smart and Slim" which I'll be trying to track down. As always these sorts of things will not work for everyone but worth a try, it has helped me heaps.
1. Wake at the Same Time Every Day.A good night's sleep actually starts in the morning. The second your eyes flutter open, light shoots down the optic nerve and into the brain's biological clock. There it stimulates the production of a smorgasbord of hormones that regulate growth, reproduction, eating, sleeping, thinking, remembering -- even how you feel from minute to minute."Sunlight activates the brain," says Frisca L. Yan-Go, M.D., medical director of the UCLA Sleep Disorders Center. And activating it at the same time every morning synchronizes your body's biological clock. Then your body has a clear direction that at midnight it's supposed to be asleep and at noon it's supposed to be awake.Wake up at a different time every day and the clock is out of sync. You feel groggy and hungover for hours, and even when you start to feel a bit more alert after that first Starbucks, you really never achieve the mental edge of which you're capable.
